32° Masonic Learning Center for children to graduate four August 5th

By Robert S. Bodenstein, 33°
Member of Board of Governors
Valley of Cleveland Learning Center

Monday August 5th will be another great day in the young history of the Valley of Cleveland 32° Masonic Learning Center for Children. That’s the day the second class will graduate from the school.

A special program will honor the graduates beginning at 7:00 p.m.. All Scottish Rite Masons are welcome to attend and share in the festivities.

Refreshments will follow the graduation ceremony.

Your Learning Center is looking forward not only to graduation day, but to a very busy summer. As the summer begins most of us lay back to enjoy a restful and quiet two months. Not so with your Masonic Learning Center. Our director has a full schedule planned for these two months.

Beginning June 17, our summer schedule now consists of classes with 22 children and it runs until June 27 and again August 8 through August 25.

We have had several brethren and their ladies volunteer at our Learning Center. Their help is greatly appreciated. One of our volunteers said he so enjoyed volunteering and listening to our students talking and learning with our tutors and found that it is really rewarding. It gives you a real thrill realizing what this education will mean to these youngsters as they grow older. We give them the gift of reading upon which no monetary value can be placed. You too can get this same feeling by volunteering at your Learning Center.

We are also looking for two more tutors to begin training. If you would like to receive this training and you like working with children, give our director Mary Ann Glasgow a call at (216) 881-2234.

The Scottish Rite Ladies’ Association luncheon was a huge success. All the members of the Valley say a big “thank you” for hosting this event which benefitted your 32° Masonic Learning Center. Watch for their next fund raiser to be held in 2003.

At the present, The Northern Masonic Jurisdiction has 39 Masonic Learning Centers open with many more on the drawing board. Our Valley leads all the Valleys in Ohio in having the most students sponsored by an individual or group. What a great distinction for us. Why don’t more Masonic Lodges go together and pool money so they can support a youngster in our Learning Center. Why let your funds set in an account when it could make a life-long gift by teaching a child to read. If you would like to hear more about this program, call the Secretary of the Valley of Cleveland at (216) 432-2370.

The newest golf gear is a Teddy Bear Golf club head cover for your favorite woods. Why not be the first in your golfing foursome to have one on your bag. If you don’t play golf, purchase one and use it as a hand puppet as one of our Illustrious Brethren did.

At the Ohio Council of Deliberation held in Dayton June 7-8, our Chairperson, Bonnie Youngblood, representing the Worthy Grand Matron of the Order of Eastern Star in the State of Ohio, donated $4,800 to each Learning Center in Ohio as O.E.S.’s commitment to support the 32° Masonic Learning Centers.

In closing, Remember the graduation ceremony August 5, and let’s see a lot of Teddy Bears at the Valley of Cleveland Golf Classic July 13th.
