Valley presents Scottish Rite degrees on class of 23
brethren Fall 2002 The Valley of Cleveland held the Fall 2002 Two-day reunion November 22 & 23 in the Cleveland Masonic Center honoring Ill... Everett W. Allen, 33°. A class of 23 received the perfectly staged degrees presented by the dedicated officers and casts composed of valley members. The degrees were complemented by the Scottish Rite Chorus under the direction of Chester Willey accompanied on the organ by Paul Shellhamer. Degree presentations included; the Eliadah Lodge of Perfection 13th Degree (Master of the ninth Arch) and the 14th degree (Grand Elect Mason) with Edwin A. Strauss, Jr. presiding; the Bahurim Council 15th degree, (Knight of the East or Sword) and 16th Degree (Prince of Jerusalem) with Robert R. Childers presiding; the Ariel Chapter Rose Croix 17th Degree (Knight of the East and West) and the 18th degree (Knight of the Rose Croix) with Alan W. Jones presiding; and the Lake Erie Consistory 21st Degree (Patriarch Noachite) and the 32nd degree (Sublime Prince of the Royal Secret) with Ronald R. Ebert Presiding. Honored guests in attendance were past presiding officers of the various bodies of the Valley of Cleveland. They included: Eliadah Lodge of Perfection: Richard B. Ingham (1972-1974); Warren B. Smith (1978-1980); Edward F. Henry (1982-1984); Thomas H. Galyen (1984-1986); Charles J. McCarty (1986-1988); John H. Youngblood (1990-1991); David W. McClenahan (1991-1994); Jack W. Ziegler (1994-1996); Glenn L. Beaver (1996-1998); Kenneth A. DeLaat (1998-2000); and Arthur G. Quade (2000-2002). Bahurim Council, Princes of Jerusalem: James C. Matilo (1974-1976); Robert J. Hibjan (1988-1990); Richard E. Vogler (1990-1992); Robert L. Robertson (1994-1996); and John A. Hall (2000-2002). Ariel Chapter Rose Croix: Merlyn E. Meredith (1973-1975); Steven J. Krekus (1979-1981); William M. Tompkins (1981-1983); Wilbur B. Smith (1993-1995); and Robert W. Thomas (1999-2000). Lake Erie Consistory: Merlyn E. Meredith (1984-1987); Charles N. Berry (1987-1989); Ernest A. McFarland (1989-1990); John W. Young (1992-1994); Robert W. Cubbison (1994-1996); Terrance J. MacDonald (1996-1998); Jeffrey J. Black (1998-2000); and Bradford A. Goebel (2000-2002). The Fall Valley of Cleveland luncheon featured music by the Al Koran Shrine Band directed by Richard Denner. Other business of the luncheon included: introduction of brethren seated on the dais; Deputy’s Representative Robert J. Hibjan; presentation of a plaque from the Alzheimer’s Association for Masonic assistance at three area walks to Ronald Ebert representing the Cleveland Masonic Library Association by Terry Mate, M.S.A., Walk Coordinator; Paul Shellhamer, Organist for the Fall Reunion; Scottish Rite Society Presidents; Reunion Dramatic Directors; and M.S.A.-Elect honorees John Oberg and Henry Mack. Following lunch, the 32nd degree was presented. It is during this degree that special dignitaries are presented. Among those presented to Comman-der-in-Chief Ronald Ebert were: District Deputies of the 22nd Masonic District: John H. Whitehouse, Robert Gillahan, Robert J. Draye, Eric R. Schau; 25th District Deputy Grand Master Robert J. Homoly; 20th District Deputy Grand Master Timothy Moore; and and Steven J. Krekus, 33°, Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Ohio. Also escorted to the stage was Robert J. Hibjan, 33°, Deputy’s Representative in the State of Ohio to the Valley of Cleveland who presented James G. Ohlinger, Deputy’s Representative for the Valley of Akron. A total of 317 members, and visitors attended the Fall 2002 Reunion. If you weren’t in that number...we missed you. See you April 26 at the One-Day Reunion. Petitions are now available from your lodge secretary and the valley office. * * * Special note should be made of Paul Shellhamer who was a capable substitute as the organist at the 2002 Fall Reunion. Thanks for filling in Paul. It should also be noted that due to the illness of Ill... Russell Van Scyoc, 33°, the part of the Hospitaler in the 14th degree was presented by Jonathan P. Cherry, and the part of Christ in the 18th degree was portrayed by Jason Kita. Both parts were assigned less than 24 hours prior to the reunion and performed flawlessly. Ill... Robert J. Hibjan, 33°, Deputy’s Representative for the Valley of Cleveland, welcomes Ill... James H. Ohlinger, Deputy’s Representative from the Valley of Akron. Ill... Brother Ohlinger was part of a contingent of several members of the Valley of Akron who were in attendance on Saturday.
Ill... James R. Filliez, 33°, Deputy’s Representative from Canton, is welcomed to the Valley of Cleveland for the Fall 2002 Reunion, by Ill... Robert J. Hibjan, 33°, Deputy’s Representative for the Valley of Cleveland. Hibjan and Filliez are Past Sovereign Princes in their respective valleys.
The Al Koran Shrine Band under the direction of Richard Denner, performed at the Fall 2003 Reunion. The orchestra is scheduled to appear in concert at the Travel & Adventure program in The Cleveland Masonic Center auditorium on Sunday, January 19th.
