MEDINA COUNTY SCOTTISH RITE SOCIETY!

80 Brethren and guests attend March meeting
at Western Reserve Masonic Community

By Russ Palmateer
Medina County Society Scribe

Fellow compatriots, or is you prefer my dear companions. I was privileged to meet with nearly eighty (80) brethren and their ladies for our March meeting at the Western Reserve Masonic Community in Medina. Finally we meet in a location with no stairs to climb, a banquet style atmosphere, and best of all our biggest crowd in many years. I’m talking about a large group of brethren on wheel chair and walkers, etc.

Our Valley officers were out in force to this meeting. It was gratifying to feel their support.
Our secretary Roger Edgington said seeing the fantastic group makes you realize that our work and dedication are worth it.

We hope that you will let your society officers know if this is where you want us to meet in the future. Our goal is to get as many of you as possible to our meetings. Then we will have something to work for.

I was pleased to rub elbows with a number of brethren who said they look forward to reading our Society news. So with this auspicious commendation, I may decide to stay in this position a while longer (as long as Dave Mackey keeps me straight).

We had a beautiful day which put us in the mood for this special meeting event. The dinner was buffet style with a menu fitting kings and queens. The waitresses were friendly and kept us supplied with coffee, etc. Those of you who couldn’t be with us, come to our next meeting. You will love it!.

Dennis Lawson, our Chaplain, gave the grace and kept us mindful of all our troops who are keeping us safe and free.

We moved from the dining hall to this huge entertainment hall where a musical group from the Millersburg area called “The String Alongs” played for almost a hour of foot stomping music of violins, bass, guitar, and banjo. These four musicians, three men and a girl, really kept our attention. How they keep all their music straight is something special.
Illustrious John Youngblood, 33°, presented the Valley of Cleveland officers and discussed the Feast of the Paschal Lamb. Also he reminded us of the Spring 2003 One-Day Reunion honoring Illustrious Glenn J. Bollinger, 33°. And yes...he did tell a joke....about three flies. So come to our meetings and add John’s jokes to your list. Some are really rib tickling.
I saw seven past Presidents of our Society in attendance including Illustrious Charles Hawley and his wife Sue.

We are planning for our annual meeting on May 28th. Where, at this point, will be either at the Western Reserve Masonic Community or the Medina Masonic Temple. You will be notified. At this meeting, new officers will be elected and installed. Once again....wives are encouraged to come to our meetings. There will be no more meetings without out ladies.
We thank Bob Odin for planning the March meeting. Also thanks to Roger Edgington for all he does and thanks to this year’s President, John Moore, who keeps everyone doing their thing.

By Robert Kotab--Society Scribe

The Ashtabula County Scottish Rite Society held their March meeting on the 1st of March at the Rock Creek Restaurant. In spite of the continuing bad weather and much competition, a full house was in attendance. It is always a pleasure to have brethren from the valley and other valleys with us.

The main order under discussion at the meeting was making final plans for our annual dinner meeting in June. The date will be June 7th at 6:30 p.m. at the Harts’ Grove Masonic Temple. There will be a choice of a complete Roast Pork or Roast Beef dinner for the modest cost of $10. The entertainment for the evening will be a musical performance by Bev Newbold, folk musician. Reservations for the annual dinner meeting can be made by calling Bob Williams at (440) 474-7368 or Bob Kotab at (440) 563-9605 for tickets or information.

LORAIN COUNTY SCOTTISH RITE SOCIETY!

“Babe Ruth” make appearance at March meeting;
annual meeting June 5th

The March meeting of the Lorain County Scottish Rite Society was called to order by President Phil Smith with the invocation given by Wendell Strunk. A moment of silence was given for those serving and protecting us near and far.

“Buster the Babe” and Rich McHugh, Secretary of the Lorain County Scottish Rite Society, talk baseball.

Following a delicious pork chop buffet dinner, Ron Runion introduced and presented the evening’s featured speaker “Buster The Babe,” Willis Gardner who has for the past 12 years traveled throughout the country making appearances as a Babe Ruth look-alike.
Buster has turned heads from California to New York. While greeting the gathering of 80 members and guests, he talked about his numerous experiences meeting and greeting people who love baseball and Babe Ruth. He stated that his engagements only require him to be present, mingle and BS. He shared the names of those he has met and stories of when they met. At the time he met George Steinbrenner, Buster told us that he said only two words, ”Hire Him”, no doubt referring back to the days when the real Babe Ruth was a star for the Yankees. Though no formal speech was given, Buster entertained all present with his real life experiences as Buster the Babe.
